Cemeteries are not only places of rest and beauty, they are also keepers of memories, and bridges which aim to provide a spiritual gateway to those who have passed away before us.  They also provide us with a suspension in time.  The centuries merge as an eighteenth century site lies not far from those in subsequent centuries.  The distinction between sites may be seen in the variety of stones, but in most cases, the life stories of the people are represented only by the dash between the years of birth and death.  It is here in our cemeteries that the great miracle takes place.  As St. Paul reminds us, "there in neither Gentile or Jew, servant or free, woman or man."  Those great issues that have divided us since the dawn of civilization, religion, class, and gender, have been resloved.  All are one.
